Laments that express our grief

Jun 4, 2026 | READ

It could have been any one of many such episodes, but I was moved to tears recently watching this report by Sky News from the primary school that was bombed at the start of America’s war with Iran.

Grief is part of being human, part of being made in the image of God. But it isn’t always easy to know how to express the grief we feel, whether it is that which comes to us in our own lives, or the sorrow that rises as the Holy Spirit within us leads us in response to the tragedies and trauma that strike other people so horribly.

Part Two of our Patmos: Place of Exile, Place of Revelation album includes many tracks that will help us to sound that grief. It may be a long while since you have listened to these; and if you have never discovered them then you are in for a treat, they are really special. May the Spirit of God draw you to the tracks that you will particularly identify with, and may the prayer that rises release His mercy.
