A friend wrote to tell me that the Lord had given her a heavy and uncomfortable burden during the night of January 1st, which she felt to be a warning for 2024.
She had been reading in Daniel of the the mountain that grew from the rock cut without human hands, which struck and shattered the enormous statue of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. Daniel declares that that mountain will fill the whole earth and endure forever, having crushed all other kingdoms and brought them to an end. My friends saw a mountain gradually emerging out of mist.
How clear the Scriptures are that,
The Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty,
for all that is exalted
(and they will be humbled),
for all the cedars of Lebanon, tall and lofty, [Lebanon is obviously in the cross hairs at the moment and all that lies behind it in terms of support from Iran]
and all the oaks of Bashan,
for all the towering mountains
and all the high hills,
for every lofty tower
and every fortified wall,
for every trading ship
and every stately vessel. [Woo, think of the Red Sea at the moment]
The arrogance of man will be brought low
and human pride humbled;
the LORD alone will be exalted in that day,
and the idols will totally disappear.
Jesus really is coming back to overthrow the kingdoms of the world – and how utterly different the world will be when He does so.
My friend’s second picture was of the rider of the pale fourth horse, who was accompanied by Hades, and who has immense power to cause widespread death by every horrible means possible.
The fiery red and black horses that preceded brought devastation in terms of peace and security, but here we see a response to them in Revelation that dovetails only too precisely with the end of the Isaiah 2 passage. People seek desperately to hide from the catastrophes that are befalling them. But Isaiah has no hesitation in attributing them to the fearful presence of the LORD, and the splendour of His majesty as He arises to shake the earth.
Given the volatile nature of so many nations in the world – and how relatively few there are left where believers are not being persecuted, my friend felt that 2024 will be a year that sees further acceleration of atrocities, wars and plagues. She described this as being humanly unwelcome but, in God’s sight, a necessary part of paving the way for the ‘mountain’ that is the Kingdom of God to eventually replace the crumbling and disunited empires of the world. (Rev. 11:15)
What encouraged her most, and what has become the focus of her prayers this year, was that the mountain was gradually becoming more visible.
May Your kingdom come, Lord Jesus, and may the harvest increase!
