Eleventh Hour Miracle
If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us.
He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty.
But even if He doesn’t, Your Majesty can be sure that we will never serve your gods
or worship the gold statue you have set up.
Many of us have seen the Lord intervene so many times at the last moment to turn situations round that we may almost come to regard this as being “normal.” What we cannot afford to do is to make a doctrine out of our experiences. There is nothing automatic about the Lord’s intervention. Mark Stibbe reminds us that Daniel’s brave young friends had four things to say about the Lord’s ability to rescue them:
We declare that You can,
We believe that You will,
We recognise, though, that know You might not –
but we pray that You do!18
Let’s pray for people who are facing a “fiery furnace,” holding these thoughts in balance.
Reflect and Pray
Lord, we declare that nothing is too hard for You;
You have the power to heal and the power to rescue.
We pray that right now You would touch
(Name the person who comes to mind).
Should You choose not to release them
in the way that we and they would hope,
may them keep seeking Your face,
and allow no room for disappointment to set in.
May they be so covered in the glory of Your presence
that they experience a fresh touch
of Your Heavenly comfort today, we pray, Lord Jesus.
In Your name, Amen.
